“Ah, but love… I was so lookin’ forward t’seein’ some company.” Loptr purred, closing in on the newcomer. The liesmith’s head cocked to one side, amber eyes licking over the female form of the being before him; it was not often he found such a unique being in the labyrinth of the city.
Licking his lips and letting his shoulders fall from their passive-aggressive stance, Loptr kept to the shadows for a few more brief moments. The sounds of bones breaking, of skin tearing and of hair being ripped from their roots filled the air until it lay thick with the stench of rotting flesh and fresh blood.
The woman was such a peculiar, unique character that the liesmith’s heart was consumed. He would have to do something; the familiar flame of mischief kindled the hearth of his soul once more.
“Sweetheart…” Loptr hummed once more, revealing himself as he stepped from the shadows wearing a new and handsome face. The trickster smiled, his cheekbones high and defined, cupped by long black locks of hair and electric blue eyes which lit in contrast to his gold-washed skin and ebony hair. “What’s wrong with me? I offer you no harm… I was merely speaking in concern. No-one should traverse these alleys alone… Neither of us are safe if we do. Might I accompany you until we reach somewhere safer?”
“I am not any love of yours, sir, and if you’re seeking the company of a woman, I suggest heading down the road opposite of my own.” Thank the stars this dress hid much of her curvature, for she could almost hear hungry lips being licked from the shadows of the alley. This person, Sarah assumed, had ill-intent and she no longer wished to stick around to hear what else would spill from his lips. Naked fingers brushed Aunduin’s muzzle and pointed down the direction of the street which lead to their sanctuary. “Go, worry not about me,” she was more concerned for the safety of the beast than herself - likewise, Aunduin felt the same.
Every nerve ending was screaming for her to turn away, to simply run into shelter and avoid being even within arm’s length of whoever found comfort in the dark. The threat of danger was imminent and not easily ignored by Sarah, even if her body ached to retreat to safety. She was her own worst enemy when it came to such things - for she found the rush of adrenaline and thrill inviting. Even now, as the putrid smell wafted in her direction, and the sounds caused her stomach to churn, Sarah dared not move.
“Go,” the command in her voice was for the animal, who gave her a quizzical look while she lowered the sack of medicine to his maw. Fearful for the maiden, he had no choice but to obey, for the summon knew that she did this mostly for his safety - how can he doubt her ability to defend herself? Taking the sack between sharpened teeth, he offered one last look into those viridian eyes before a growl bubbled from his throat. Without much of a protest after that, he went ahead without giving a glance to Sarah.
From the corner of her eye, she caught the sight of moment and quickly turned on her heel to face the voice from the alley. Her eyes were hardened and narrowed as her aura flickered slightly, sending an electrical charge in the air. The being was magical and she wasn’t going to hide that fact if it meant defending herself.
But he disarmed her for a moment when her eyes gazed upon his features. Confusion was etched across her fair countenance and Sarah’s heart was filled with something else other than fright, bewilderment. He was beautiful under the kiss of moonlight with features of a high born. She found herself looking into his eyes, but before drowning herself in that sea of cerulean, the maiden turned away - for eyes opened a portal to ones soul, and she was not prepared to show her own to him.
Still, her gut told her that it was best to keep guard, thus, moving a hand behind her, she began manipulating the air betwixt slender fingers to form a charge. Sweetheart? Sarah heard the honeyed words flow from his lips and took a step back, trying to keep a safe distance between her and this handsome figure. She regained lost composure and defiantly lifted her chin in his direction. “One most wonder just what you were doing back there, for there were suspicious sounds coming from the shadows and an awful smell that still lingers in the air above. Were you simply waiting for some trollop to stroll on by? For if that is the case, you and I are not going anywhere together, I have my companion and he is ahead of me at the moment.” Her eyes rose to his features once more, studying him in silence.
She was drawn to his appeal, something mysterious enveloped him and the maiden could not explain just what it was that lured her in. Trying to calm her drumming heart, she took a breath and bowed her head a bit just as she turned away and pulled her hand in front of her. It was best to leave his side before this continued any further.
