The price we pay

Things were rather slow in the Circle and Orsino wasn’t entirely sure he liked that. Even the bratty apprentices, who always had something to complain about, were quiet. Tonight was a night he wasn’t going to abide by the rules of the Circle, for tonight he had something to drop off in a special place for a friend and colleague. The two could never meet face to face, out of fear of someone seeing them, but they kept in touch with letters, letters that neither of them stamped or tied as to lower the notoriety on them.

Lately however, his friend had been telling him dark things, disturbing things, about his recent discoveries about a certain forbidden magic, but he was intrigued nonetheless. What he learned from that man opened up so many thoughts, things he probably should’ve been made Tranquil for. Well tonight he was to leave a considerably large amount of lyrium, which he had stashed away for an entire month until it was his time to sneak out, to a hidden hole in the side of a warehouse. Last time, however, he had almost been caught. He had been spotted entering the Gallows late at night by a Templar recruit and, much to his dismay, invoked Meredith’s ire for an entire week.

The knock at his door shook him from his tired, disgruntled thoughts and stopped his signature pacing. With a calming sigh, as to remove any sign of discontent from his face, he walked over to the door and opened it, eyebrows shooting up at his surprise visitor.

“Sarah…?”

“Orsino?” She responded with a decadent smile that hinted to the mischief he once tasted from her. Glasz depths had fallen under the surrender of lowered lashes as she placed the satchel at her bosom and brushed it with the lightest of caresses. “Don’t act so surprised,” spoken below a whisper, she lifted her eyes from underneath the hood to playfully wink at him. “Who else would it be?”

Sarah did not hesitate to enter the door that was already agape - it gave her enough space to slip through. The maiden didn’t wait for him to give a complaint, for she was already within the office and at his desk, where the satchel was placed next to a tower of paperwork he had. Turning her attention to him, quick fingers pulled back the hood to allow Sarah to reveal herself fully. Her once messy curls were now confined to a bun, though a few strands rebelled to being kept manageable.

Her gaze darted from Orsino to the door, waiting for him to close it behind his tall frame before she uttered another word. She knew not of the ears pressed to the walls here, it would perhaps be safer if she did not test it either. An index finger motioned for the door, then curled to beckon him close whilst the other one pats at the leather bag settled on the surface of his desk.
