The price we pay

firstenchanterofkirkwall:

He fell silent after she finished speaking, figuring that she finally realized how much of a burden he’d really be. Aside from this little get-in-get-out routine of his, Orsino barely got out of the Gallows without a Templar Escort. He wasn’t going to persist if she had truly given up showing him what she was capable of and instead concentrated on getting to the Kirkwall docks.

Several times they had to duck into the shadows and behind barrels to avoid the sight of random passerby. He couldn’t help but to use the freedom of the street clothes to his advantage and would squat and kneel behind the barrels, something he could hardly do in his robes without doing it carefully and slowly. When they finally arrived in the general area of his destination, his face went grim and he placed a hand on Sarah’s shoulder, mouthing for her to stay and keeping his hand on her for a moment before walking away and disappearing around a corner to wriggle in between the crates of abandoned cargo.

Removing the satchel from his shoulder, he pressed himself against the large Fereldan labeled crate and pushed it till it reveal a large hole in the wall of the warehouse the crates were next to. He then moved the satchel into the small cubby hole and circled around to the other side of the crate, his heart thudding loudly from both anxiety and adrenaline. Once the crate was returned to its original spot, his eyes flicked to the cold, unlit torch. It was the signal. A hand flared to life with a small fire that he used to light the torch, quickly sending the spell away as he returned to where Sarah stood, looking over his shoulder nearly every step he took.

Scandalous! Well, it would be a scandal if she knew exactly what was going on, but she didn’t need to know all the intricate details to familiarize herself with the situation. Sarah was known to be lurking in the shadows, for she excelled at concealing herself under the heaven’s dark tapestry when it came to lurking about Kirkwall.

Her luck faltered at times, especially when it came to dealing with those who harbored ill-intentions. But, with Orsino, she would make sure not to encounter any problems. He wasn’t so much of a burden than she was - since it was she that chose to follow him out of the Gallows.

Turning her back to those that were passing by, Sarah slowly started to shift so she could hide with Orsino without making it look to obvious. Looking up into his eyes, she simply nods in understanding and mouthed out ‘be careful’ just as his hand fell to her shoulder. Forgetting that the hood was down, Sarah quickly gathered the fabric up and pulled it harshly over her head to hide away scarlet ringlets.

She licked her lips and looked around the dock, noticing some people walking by. Making sure she distracted them from stealing a look at Orsino, Sarah lifted the peasant dress slightly, as if fixing her boots. She showed a bit of leg, but it was enough to draw the eye to her figure than the elf sneaking around.

Who said that she never used her aesthetics to her advantage? Being a woman did have some perks.

Seeing them move along, after a few quick glances past their shoulders, Sarah now focused on Orsino and what he was doing, but he had vanished before she could notice which direction he took. A sharp breath passed through her lips as hands settled on her hips and she began looking around, making sure that the area was clear of anyone else before the First Enchanter came back from finishing his task.

Given the small amount of time he was gone, Sarah began thinking about his words. He was not here feeding the addiction of a Templar. From what she gathered, a few Templars were addicted to lyrium, and if he was not giving that to a Templar - then who was he leaving it for?

Snapping back from her reverie, Sarah watched a torch being lit once Orsino had come back around. “That didn’t take long,” Sarah whispered, though was unaware that anyone was behind her. Thankfully, it wasn’t anyone of much importance. Hearing the footsteps coming from the rear, however, spooked her enough to act.

Her hands reached out just as she felt the sensation of gooseflesh run down her arms. Fingers held his own firmly and Sarah nearly pulled herself toward Orsino and whispered quickly. “Hide your face on my shoulder, embrace me, pretend to like it.No one really knew her face, so she didn’t worry about herself - more concern was directed to the First Enchanter.
