The price we pay

The footsteps had him tense against her as he feared that they were the Templars. Scenario after scenario flooded from the depths of his mind despite his best efforts to concentrate on looking natural and not like he was The First Enchanter outside the confines of the Circle. But his mind did not cease it’s relentless, unnerving thoughts. It was a Templar who had figured he was up to something when bottles of Lyrium began disappearing. It was Meredith herself, ready to drag him back to the Gallows and have him made Tranquil. It was Knight Captain Cullen who’d have no choice but to report his insubordination to the Knight Commander. It was this, it was that, he felt like his heart was about to explode—

He sighed shakily trembled, rather violently, when there was sudden interaction with his ear. It took all he had not to respond audibly and instead tilted his head further down her shoulder, biting his lip and closing his eyes, trying to keep the burning in his cheeks from remaining there. The moment she spoke, he waited until he could no longer hear the footsteps of the unknown person before straightening up and backing away from her.

“Thrills?” He hung his head a moment. “Not very thrilling…Maker’s Breath that was ridiculously intense…” He turned to look back in the direction of the Gallows.

Sarah didn’t seem surprised at the reaction, for she felt the heat from his visage burn at her neck. Her eyes had closed at the feeling of intimacy when flesh pressed unto her own. But that soon ended just as it began, for when the sign of danger had dispersed, the First Enchanter pulled free. Her delicate hands lowered before the folds of her dress whilst keeping her gaze to the ground. A secret smile wanted to form but the maiden suppressed it immediately.

“I actually enjoyed that, the intensity, the adrenaline.” Sarah confessed in a soft whisper, though not once raised her gaze to meet his own. She was a junkie when it came to the thrill, it was invigorating. Trying to calm her own lit desires, Sarah turned away from him and faced the Gallows now.

“I suppose this is where we part ways again?” She masked what she felt and stole a glance past her shoulder at him, “Or do you often come here to do this little task of yours? If that is the case, perhaps I could help you and make it easier for you, Orsino.” By that, she meant that she would indeed become his accomplice, because what else did she have to do at the wee-hours of the night but be a sneak.
