Red lips pulled into a wide smile when she noticed he was getting comfortable and even helped himself to the wine. With both hands folded at her lap, she glanced past her shoulder at the people gathered around them. It was a large number of contributors, patrons and hosts. She already had forgotten all their names. The waiter returned and took Rune’s order after filling the empty glass with water, which sat adjacent to that filled with wine. “All of them have money, I felt rather out of place, as you can imagine,” she smirked at him, mister I drive a Bentley.
“Hey, I rub arms with the underbelly of the city on most days. You feel out of place?” He thanked the waiter after handing his menu over, taking another sip of the wine and wrinkling his nose a bit. He wasn’t overly fond of it.
“So, there anyone I’m going to have to remember besides you here, or should I not worry about that?”
“Oh Rune, just don’t mention that you work with the mafia and whatnot. As long as some brute doesn’t come charging in here, looking for you, I believe we will be just fine.” She couldn’t believe the words that left her lips. Never would she imagine herself speaking so nonchalant regarding dealings with deviants.
“Honestly, unless you really wish to perhaps purchase a few pieces of art, I don’t see why you would bother remembering even their faces. I know one thing is for certain. I have several thank you notes to send out when I get home.” Lifting the glass, by its slender stem, she smiled in his direction.
“I hope I wasn’t too forward in inviting you to dinner. I mean, not that we are alone, though I rather have company I could speak with rather than surrounding myself with strangers.”
